At what cost comes peace of mind?
When it came to waterproofing the deck on their home in Portola Valley (west of Palo Alto, south of San Francisco) a client decided that it was worth the additional cost to have us stay in a motel and eat at the local establishments than trust the local contractors who were pushing Westcoat ALX onto them.
Our web site ranks high on web searches and clients who are searching for a deck contractor will often find my site and read my job profiles and frank discussions on deck waterproofing. I say it like it is and for some the truth is to much to bear…
I’ve found that a “tough love” approach to our clients has been winnowing out the wheat from the chafe as it were.
As a result, I work with discriminating clients who are looking for quality and are willing to pay a little more than what the cheapest bid will get them. Rebecca F of Portola Valley is one of those clients who put a value on having a the best qualified contractor do her work, even when it costs a little more.
The deck at Rebecca’s home had failed, a combination of installer mistakes had doomed the deck from the day it was installed. Failure to clean oily flashings, nail them off, install the deck system properly, you name it, the deck was done WRONG.
Westcoat ALX was proposed to her by several local contractors, and some research on the internet turned up our videos and information on Westcoat. Central Coast Waterproofing was invited to come up and inspect the job and provide a bid. Our candid information and discussion convinced the owner that we were the best choice and Desert Crete was the best deck coating for the job.
Despite being several thousand dollars over the local competitors in Palo Alto, the owners took our bid and we set up a schedule to start the job.
We removed the plywood from the deck and installed new 3/4″ AC exterior grade, blocked, screwed and glued. We installed new flashings to the deck to wall, columns and edges with bonderized 26 gauge sheet metal. We then installed Desert Crete decking with a knockdown finish and sealed it with Arizona Tan.
For your next decking project that is a “Failure Is Not An Option/Excellence Is Mandatory” project, we want to bid your work.
